Diagnosing the issue

How can I get rid of the residue without damaging my Wii?
The following method is what we have found to be most effective for removing the residue:
1. Wrap a strip of masking tape around the fingers of one hand so that the sticky side is facing outwards.
2. Dab at the sticky areas of your console to remove the residue.
Still have an issue?
If you are unable to remove the residue, and it is interfering with your enjoyment of the Wii console, you can send your system to be repaired.
This is an external issue that is not covered by your warranty. You can still send us your Wii console to fix, but you will be liable for the cost of any repairs.
