If you’re having issues with your Wii Remote’s response – or the cursor doesn’t appear on your screen – follow the advice below.
There are a number of reasons why the cursor may not be visible. One of the most common factors is that the game you are attempting to play simply doesn’t use it. Make sure you read the instruction manual of the game you’re having issues with to check whether the cursor should appear or not.
Make sure that the pointer lens – the tinted section at the top of your Wii Remote – isn’t dirty or obstructed, as this could cause issues with the Sensor Bar’s recognition software.
To check the buttons on your Wii Remote are working, access the Main Menu and use the + and – buttons to scroll through the menus.
You should also check the battery level of your Wii Remote, as our experience has taught us that the cursor may not appear when the battery level is at one flashing light or less. If this is the case, try replacing your batteries with fresh ones.
All four LEDs should flash when you’ve inserted the new batteries, but if this doesn’t happen your Wii Remote may need to be repaired.
You can also try to sync your Wii Remote from scratch. For more details, see How do I synchronise one or more Wii Remotes…
If you return to the Wii Channel Menu the cursor should appear, however your console will only recognise the Wii Remote designated to Player One in the Mii Channel or Photo Channel menus.
There may be problems with the connection between your Wii Remote and Sensor Bar. Make sure that when playing your Wii that you are positioned between 3 and 10 feet away from the Sensor Bar, and that there are no bright lights that could interfere with the Wii Remote.
You should also check the cord of the Sensor Bar for any frayed wires or kinks, and ensure that it’s not being obstructed in any way.
If you can scroll through the menu but the cursor still doesn’t appear, it’s likely that there is a problem with your Sensor Bar.
You can book your Wii or Sensor Bar in for inspection by the Nintendo Customer Support Team.
